Summer Friendly Items to Purchase for Your 9-to-5 !

Hey everyone,

So I have this love-hate relationship with summer. The main reason being that I work a 9-to-5 and it gets super super hot at work. Getting ready for work is a hassle because you want to stay cool , but you also want to layer up just in case the AC is turned up a bit too high .

When clients hire me for my shopping services, one of the main things that they want me to shop for is work attire. Now that the season is changing and summer is technically officially here, many people struggle with finding what to wear to work that’s functional for the climate and appropriate for the workday.

As a stylist I want to help my clients maintain the proper wardrobe all year round so here are summer friendly pieces that you should have in your wardrobe for your 9-to-5.

Breathable/Light Tops

One of the things I've lacked in my closet are tops that I could wear to work that I wouldn't sweat in by the time I got to work. Nothing is more embarrassing than sweat stains seaping through your clothes!

Try tops that are light and breathable. I prefer tops that are primarily cotton or linen. These materials are summer friendly and allows heat to flow evenly throughout the body.

 Ankle Length Trousers/Loose Fitting Pants

Maybe its just me, but when it's summer time , I hate when I feel like I have too many clothes on. When the season gets warmer , I start to reach for work pants that are't super long. Ankle pants are my go-to styles. They are comfortable and still summer friendly for the work environment, while still looking very put together!

Opt Out of the Cardigan, Try a Cute Kimono or Duster

Don't get me wrong, I love a good cardigan for work, but I dislike taking it on and off when I'm sitting in my office. Even the lighter cardigans I still find too thick for the summer time. Personally, I feel like work attire can still be fashionable and fun. A light kimono or duster is the perfect "trendy" alternative to a typical blazer. They are loose fitting , which allows for air to flow very well.

Midi Skirt with Movement

I don't know about you guys, but pencil skirts to me are quite dull don't you think ? In the summer, I hate wearing things that are too close to my body, and quite frankly , most aren't " sweat proof " where they need to be....Ladies , you know what I mean (lol).

My favorite summer trend right now is satin, and lately I've been seeing  skirts that are absolutely gorgeous! Very light, but still classy. For work, I'd chose a midi skirt that is airy and has movement. Try some that has prints, a pop of color (pastel or neon) , or has a fun asymmetrical shape.
